Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This is “I Ain’t Gonna Give Nobody None of My Jelly Roll” by Barbara Dane:
I happened upon Barbara Dane this week via this tweet from music writer Ted Gioia. Yesterday morning I started looking into her, and very quickly discovered that the more you look into Barbara Dane, the more there is to like. She sings folk, jazz, and blues. She released an album called I Hate the Capitalist System and another called What Are You Gonna Do When There Ain’t No Jazz? She’s 89 years old and just released a new album that I’m looking forward to listening to.
