Song of the Week: “Praying Hands” by Devo

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

Here’s “Praying Hands” by Devo:

Devo — “Praying Hands”

I listen to Devo a lot.  Are We Not Men? We Are Devo is probably one of my favorite albums of all time.  Every time I listen to it I think, “Damn! Devo is an amazing band.”  It’s not just the flower pots they wore on their heads.  It’s not just the complex rhythms.  It’s not just the razor sharp wit of the lyrics, or the edge of silliness that creeps in without becoming smug or annoying.  It’s that when those things are put together, they make magic: music at once serious and complicated, fun and silly.

You’ve stumbled across a great choice here that your musical talent would suggest was impossible. Excellent song, imspired overachievement… well done!
