Song of the Week: “The Mightiest of Guns” by A.A. Bondy

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

This is “The Mightiest of Guns” by A.A.Bondy:

My buddy Robbie introduced me to A.A. Bondy back in November, and I’ve subsequently bought his three albums, American Hearts, When The Devil’s Loose and Believers. I’ve been listening to them quite a bit lately, mainly because I like A.A. Bondy’s ear for a melody, and his understated arrangements.  His songs don’t blow your doors off with their complexity or virtuosity or lyrics; instead, they slip in through your open window and gently coax themselves into part of your life. That sounds a bit creepy: they don’t blow your doors off; instead they amble up your drive and join you on the front porch, and at the end of the evening you feel like you’ve been friends for longer than a handful of hours.
