Song of the Week: “Far from Portland” by Lau

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

This is “Far from Portland” by Lau:

As I write this week’s post, the residents of Scotland are voting in a referendum to decide whether Scotland will become an independent nation, or whether it will remain as part of the United Kingdom, so it seemed appropriate to share a song by the fantastic Scottish folk group Lau.  Lau performed at this year’s End of the Road Festival, and were an absolute highlight of the weekend for me.  It’s not easy to perform on a big stage in the middle of the Saturday afternoon of a festival, but Lau had my jaw as close to literally dropping as is possible with their thoughtful, intense, exciting and absolutely absorbing music.
