{"id":1396,"date":"2016-10-14T08:48:18","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T07:48:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/douglascowie.com\/?p=1396"},"modified":"2016-10-12T09:03:38","modified_gmt":"2016-10-12T08:03:38","slug":"song-of-the-week-country-sleaze-by-goat-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.douglascowie.net\/?p=1396","title":{"rendered":"Song of the Week: &#8220;Country Sleaze&#8221; by Goat Girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Each Friday I pick a song\u2013new, old, borrowed, blue\u2013that\u2019s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.<\/p>\n<p>This is &#8220;Country Sleaze&#8221; by Goat Girl:<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1lq5Sz9lLOo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I went to see Parquet Courts this week, and on the advice of my buddy Bob&#8217;s son Alex, we got there early to check out South London&#8217;s Goat Girl. It was a good shout.\u00a0 The thing about Goat Girl is, they&#8217;re not a fully-formed rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll unit just yet, but listening to and watching them, you can tell that they&#8217;re on their way.\u00a0 They&#8217;ve got a great surf-punk-&#8216;n&#8217;-roll-on-quaaludes, wet-Fenders-and-big-drum-pounding sound, and their songs had a bunch of good ideas and riffs in them, though not always quite enough shape.\u00a0 I feel like I&#8217;m damning them with faint praise here, but I don&#8217;t really mean to; this is a young band, still working on its ideas, and it&#8217;s a fun thing to see&#8211;they&#8217;re pretty good, and they&#8217;ll only get better. Also, it couldn&#8217;t have been easy playing a venue that big with the usual quarter-full smattering of a crowd.
