The Anacondas<\/a> “Bad Buzz–Lost in the Space Age” Surfgalactic International<\/p>\n

So according to the owner and operator of Surfgalactic International Corp., The Anacondas happened upon the tapes made by the cast and crew of the fake space landing; not that Buzz and Neil didn\u2019t jump around on the moon back in 1969, but NASA had sent a crew to the desert just in case they didn\u2019t make it.\u00a0 Anyway, they had nothing to do, the actor playing Buzz went nuts (the Bad Buzz of the title), and they rocked themselves stupid.\u00a0 The Anacondas have lovingly recreated those tapes in glorious twenty-first century quality.<\/p>\n

And holy shit are we all happy they did.\u00a0 What we get with \u201cBad Buzz\u2014Lost in the Space Age\u201d is B-movie sci-fi surf-rock of the highest caliber.\u00a0 And since we\u2019re dealing with outerspace, or at least a desertified version of outerspace, the highest caliber is gonna be pretty damn high.\u00a0 I mean, jeeeeeeeeez, man!\u00a0 Guitars so dripping wet I think they\u2019re melting in the desert sun, or flying to close to it; organ playing galore and glorious; trumpet; flute; basslines like rolling and breaking waves; drums you can set your watch to.\u00a0 Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh and oh:\u00a0 yeah, there\u2019s theremin.\u00a0 This is Ed Wood meets the Surfaris, Laika the space dog and the Tijuana Brass.\u00a0 Bad Buzz mutters under his breath for part of the time, and when he announces at the start of \u201cBad Buzz Down\u201d that \u201cIt\u2019s not good gettin\u2019 the bad buzz,\u201d you totally believe him.\u00a0 And then he busts out in full wackjob grumbling for \u201cHopped Up Rocket\u201d, a riff on \u201cHopped-Up Mustang\u201d, that will leave you happy you came along on his trip.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve wandered around town listening to this album, and I rang in the new year with it cranked up to eleven with rocket boosters, and I\u2019ve cooked Mexican food to it, and it\u2019s worked for all three.\u00a0 And now I\u2019m packing my spacefriends into the woodpanelled station wagon and we\u2019re firing our rockets for the moon, and this is the only damn record we\u2019re taking with us.<\/p>\n
