Each Friday I pick a song\u2013new, old, borrowed, blue\u2013that\u2019s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.<\/p>\n

H\u00fcsker D\u00fc–“Blah Blah Blah”<\/a><\/p>\n

I’m in Minneapolis this weekend, so it seemed appropriate to share H\u00fcsker D\u00fc, one of the great bands to come from that city, and one of the most influential punk\/hardcore bands to come from anywhere.\u00a0 “Blah Blah Blah” is one of my favorite songs from H\u00fcsker D\u00fc’s debut studio album, Everything Falls Apart<\/em>, released in 1983.\u00a0 Bob Mould and Grant Hart hadn’t really figured out how to write melodies yet in 1983, but hey, melody isn’t everything, and who cares when they can make noise this awesome?\u00a0 Actually, “Blah Blah Blah” is a little more melodic than a lot of the rest of the album: listen to Greg Norton’s great bassline.\u00a0 On subsequent albums they honed the art of melody and noise together, so if “Blah Blah Blah” doesn’t turn your crank, get out there and listen to the rest.<\/p>\n
