Pussy Riot — \u041f\u0443\u0442\u0438\u043d \u043d\u0430\u0443\u0447\u0438\u0442 \u0442\u0435\u0431\u044f \u043b\u044e\u0431\u0438\u0442\u044c<\/a><\/p>\nI’ve been taking my time trying to figure out what’s going on with Pussy Riot. When they first hit big-time international news in 2012 it was pretty hard to figure anything out–the international outcry saw a lot of people jumping on a particular bandwagon and saying a lot of platitudinous things that may well have been true, but maybe weren’t, and anyway, seemed for the most part like a lot of people jumping on a bandwagon because it was better to be seen to be on it than it was to be seen not to be on it.\u00a0 Or something, whatever. I don’t know, I didn’t know, and I doubt most of them did, either. It’s difficult to tell, for the outsider. So what’s going on with Pussy Riot?<\/p>\n
The documentary “Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer”<\/a> goes a long way to giving an answer to that question.<\/p>\nPussy Riot is a Russian art movement, a\u00a0 Russian political movement and a Russian punk band. To separate any one of these things from the other, it seems to me, is to miss the point. To draw simple conclusions from these things is also to miss the point. Pussy Riot demands a reaction, and as with any art, political and punk movement, the simple reactions reveal everything about the person reacting. The complex reactions will reveal more about Pussy Riot, and where the movement is moving toward, and what it achieves.<\/p>\n
