Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This is “The Space Race Is Over” by Billy Bragg:
Billy Bragg has a book out, and so there’s stuff in the papers, I read some of it, and it called to mind this, my favorite Billy Bragg song. I’m not a big Billy Bragg fan, but I always enjoy listening to him when somebody plays his songs or an album. “The Space Race Is Over” is a beautiful song about growing older, and being in the world, and ideas of progress and imagination. It lyrically fantastic, and I really like the guitar playing on it, too.
