My buddy Ryan wrote to me earlier this week to sing the praises of Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp a Butterfly, so I bought it.  I’ve only had a chance to listen to the album twice so far. I’ll be listening to it several more times in the near future, and the long future, too. The whole album presents a rich listening experience: there are layers and textures here, both musically and lyrically, that demand–and then lock–your attention, and then pay that attention back, and back, and back.
