Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This is “Old Lake” by The Blind Shake:
I always come back from The End of the Road Festival having heard a bunch of new exciting things, and this year I think I might’ve heard more new exciting things (new to me, anyway) than any other year I’ve gone. The absolute top of the pile of that new music was The Blind Shake, a band from Minneapolis. I saw them twice on Sunday, and so in the afternoon had the utter excitement of hearing (and watching–they don’t exactly hold back in the performance) something new and thrilling, and in the evening, with no less excitement, could listen a little more carefully to what they were doing: those collision of surf and hardcore punk guitars, the pummeling drums, the double-lead vocals. The fun, the fun, the fun, the fun, and did I mention the excitement?
