Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This is “See My Jumper Hanging on the Line” by R.L. Burnside:
I can’t really recall when I first heard R.L. Burnside’s music, but I always associate him with the 1996 album Now I Got Worry by The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, I guess because of the song “R.L. Got Soul“, which come to think of it, I have no idea whether it’s about the same R.L. or not. It seems likely, and I might even have read something along those lines in a popular music magazine of the time (choose your pick which one). Anyway, I love R.L. Burnside’s guitar playing and I love R.L. Burnside’s singing, and I love this film of R.L. Burnside playing and singing. This is probably my favorite of his songs. Fat Possum Records has a few different collections of R.L. Burnside recordings, and I can recommend them for sure.
