Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This is “Make Me a Pallet on the Floor” by Sam Chatmon:
A couple weeks ago I posted “See My Jumper Hanging on the Line” by R.L. Burnside, which was a film from the excellent Alan Lomax Archive YouTube channel. Casting around the channel landed me this wonderful film of Sam Chatmon, who was a member of the Mississippi Sheiks, singing this unbelievably wonderful song. He describes it as “blues type, but not a blues.” I love the lyrics, and Chatmon is a superb guitar player.
