Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This is “Born in ’69” by Rocket from the Crypt:
I’m going to see Rocket from the Crypt tonight. What do I like about Rocket from the Crypt? I like that it’s super straightforward and high-tempo music. I like the horns. I like their sideburns. I like that their name nods straight at punk rock history. I like remembering when I was a freshman at college radio station WRCU and a guy named Mike who transferred to Texas the next year (and who also introduced me to Drive Like Jehu) and I used to crank the studio speakers all the way up and “woo” and “yeah” along with it.
