Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.
This week, “Iron Man” by Black Sabbath:
If you don’t understand why people think (or rather, know) Black Sabbath is the greatest band ever, just listen to this performance of “Iron Man” from 1970. Sabbath has awesome riffs. Sabbath has awesome lyrics. And you know what the awesomest thing about this song is? The whole band–bass, drums, guitar, vocals, the whole band!– is playing the same thing, in unison, pretty much all the way through; yeah, that’s right: just straight-up smashing your brains out with awesomeness and a couple kick-ass riffs for six minutes. It’s so awesome I had to use ornate punctuation in the penultimate sentence of this post.
