Song of the Week: “Out of the Dark (Into the Light)” by Falco

Each Friday I pick a song–new, old, borrowed, blue–that’s been on my mind and in my ears, and write a short post about it.

This is “Out of the Dark (Into the Light)” by Falco:

I’m in Austria. The last time I was in Austria was about a month or so after Falco died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic, and he and his death were very much still in the news, while this video was very much on television.  I think the single was released before his death, but not much before, and anyway, it all seemed, and seems, a little uncanny and sad. Falco’s biggest hit, “Rock Me Amadeus,” was a worldwide smash hit in the mid-1980s, and definitely made a big impression on me when I was a little kid obsessively listening to FM radio.
